SAN ANTONIO, Sept. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Stream Data Centers has completed construction on a Ready-to-Fit Data Center in the master planned development of Westover Hills in San Antonio, Texas. The LEED certified, purpose built powered shell data center has been designed to meet the needs of a large enterprise data center user.
Located on 33 acres in the rapidly-growing Westover Hills area of San Antonio, the data center offers 150,000 square feet of space, expandable to 350,000 sq. ft. while maintaining 200 ft. setbacks. The development is designed to accommodate up to a Tier IV enterprise data center and is adjacent to Microsoft's recently completed 470,000 square foot mega data center.
The Stream Data Center addresses the critical needs of any Fortune 500 data center operation, including:
Reliable, Low-Cost Utilities
San Antonio's low power rates and stable, reliable power infrastructure are primary reasons why Microsoft, Lowe's Corporation and Valero Energy now house major data center operations in the city and more specifically, Westover Hills. CPS Energy, the municipally-owned utility provider, offers some of the lowest electricity rates in the Central U.S. with all-in electric rates of approximately $0.05 per kilowatt hour.
Moreover, the power and water infrastructure within Westover Hills makes it an ideal data center location. The Stream Ready-to-Fit Data Center is served by two diverse, 10 MW electric feeds from two separate, 200 MW substations. The primary electric feed comes underground directly from the new Westover Hills substation immediately adjacent to the site. The substation was completed in June 2009 and is designed to expand to a 300 MW capacity. Each diverse electric feed is expandable to 30 MWs. Redundant municipal water mains and the San Antonio Water System's (SAWS) recycled water program serve the property.
Multiple Fiber Optic Providers
The Stream Ready-to-Fit Data Center in Westover Hills is served by multiple fiber optic providers, with access to San Antonio's rich and diverse fiber optic and digital switching infrastructure spread throughout the city. The development also includes two (2), 2 MW Caterpillar generators for tenant's use.
A Secure, Low-Risk Location
With a concrete roof system and eight inch (8") thick concrete walls, the building is designed to withstand 175 mph winds. San Antonio's temperate climate and low risk of natural and man-made disasters make it a secure location for data centers.
The Westover Hills development is situated outside of flight paths and has no proximity to rail lines or industrial uses. Local emergency services and a fire station are located within one mile of the site.
Support for Green Data Center Initiatives
The Stream Ready-to-Fit Data Center is a LEED certified shell building that will allow an enterprise user to pursue any level of LEED certification desired, upon completion of the interior improvements. Access to recycled water from SAWS will be a key factor in the design of a green data center build-out.
Rapid Build-Out, Room to Grow
The lengthy process of site selection, due diligence, entitlement, zoning, and base building construction is already complete, enabling an enterprise user to bring a data center online in as little as six (6) months as opposed to 18-36 months for a typical "Greenfield" development. City approvals for all essential data center elements are in place including the placement of generators, cooling towers and fuel storage tanks. This will allow a user to immediately design and build all internal data center infrastructure to their specific needs. Designed for a single tenant, the facility will enable an end user to control all aspects of the data center project including electrical and mechanical design, interior construction, security, and all data center operations and maintenance. With room for significant expansion in the future, the Stream Ready-to-Fit Data Center is ideal for a business anticipating future growth.
