PITTSBURGH, Sept. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Sunesys LLC's technology and broadband capabilities will be showcased during the world's first G20 Student Summit, to be held this Thursday, September 17, 2009. The summit, sponsored by Sunesys in conjunction with Allegheny County Intermediate Unit and The World Affairs Council will connect U.S. high school students electronically, in real time, to teenagers in Brazil, Italy, South Africa and the Country of Georgia.
A newly built advanced, fiber optic network will make the connection possible. Provided by Sunesys, a PA-based, global fiber optics leader, the next generation network spans over 600 miles and was built over the last several years for the Allegheny, Beaver and Westmoreland County Intermediate Units. It is one of the largest regional networks of its kind in the country and it is being used to directly link over 100,000 students in 200 schools providing unlimited educational access for regional students to connect with others in the U.S. and worldwide.
Initiatives to bring high tech broadband capabilities to students in the USA are underway in Washington D.C. Brian Quigley, Sunesys vice president, is currently participating in a new national coalition formed in Washington DC. The Schools, Health and Libraries Broadband Coalition (SHLB) seeks to improve the broadband capabilities of schools, libraries and health care providers so that they can enhance the quality and availability of the essential services they provide to the public and serve underserved and un-served populations more effectively.
With educational, healthcare and environmental on the agenda for the G20, Quigley says it seems fitting to showcase the impact of technology on education and healthcare. "The Pittsburgh G-20 Student Summit represents a unique opportunity for students to interact directly with experts in the field and to consider policy issues from the diverse perspectives of the G-20 members," says Quigley. "We hope to see this become a regular event in future G20 cities."
The G20 Student Summit program will convene on Thursday, September 17. Meetings will be held with over 30 Districts in four countries. Schools will participate in the event electronically through an interactive webcast.
