Zeebo Planning to Deliver More Games and Lower Console Price for Children's Day in Brazil

Posted on: Monday, 28 September 2009, 09:00 CDT

RIO DE JANEIRO, Sept. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Zeebo, Inc. announced today that its 3G-connected gaming, entertainment and education platform will feature new titles and a reduced price of USD $219 ($399 Brazilian Reals) in time for the Children's Day holiday in Brazil. The Zeebo console, which was introduced in Brazil in June, is available in more than 200 retail locations throughout Rio de Janeiro. The system ships with three pre-embedded games and provides users the ability to download three additional titles at no charge. By Children's Day more than 10 new titles from world-renowned publishers will be available for the Zeebo, including Bejeweled Twist(TM), Galaxy On Fire, TEKKEN 2, Zeebo Extreme - Air Race, Zeebo Family Pack, and ZENONIA. Due to the addition of Mexico to its volume production, Zeebo is now priced 30% lower, and is nearly one-third the price of mainstream videogame consoles, as it enters the important Children's Day holiday season in Brazil.

"We are happy to celebrate Children's Day with the addition of more great titles and a special Zeebo price for families," said Fernando Fischer, CEO, Tectoy. Tectoy, known as the pioneer of digital gaming in Brazil, is distributing and marketing the Zeebo system in Brazil. "Zeebo provides games and entertainment for kids of all ages and allows families to spend time together making it perfect for the holiday season," added Fischer.

"We are committed to delivering family fun and learning at an affordable price," said John F. Rizzo, CEO, Zeebo. "New content drives sales of both titles and consoles, and higher volume means lower prices. Zeebo has already proven to be quite popular in Rio de Janeiro, and as we expand distribution in Brazil and launch next month in Mexico, consumers will enjoy a larger catalog of games to play as well as bigger savings on the price of a Zeebo system."

"Zeebo is the first system to enable PopCap Games to bring popular family-friendly games such as Bejeweled Twist directly to consumers in Brazil," said Andrew Stein, director of mobile business development, PopCap Games. "We are excited to deliver fun and easy-to-learn games that appeal to everyone from age 6 to 106."

The Zeebo system provides an intuitive, quick and easy-to-use home shopping experience, ready to plug into a TV and play, right out of the box. Users can shop securely and buy localized, culturally-relevant games and content without leaving their home. Zeebo delivers 3D graphics and great game play to consumers in Brazil, providing a true home entertainment experience, including 640 x 480 screen resolution, a full-featured game controller, multiplayer capability and expansion ports for additional options. Connection to ZeeboNet for the secure purchase of a variety of content is simple and no wireless service plan is required.

The platform fosters the development and monetization of local content by preventing piracy through secure wireless, over-the-air delivery. In support of Zeebo's initial launch in Brazil, leading content publishers and developers, including Activision, Capcom, Com2uS, Digital Chocolate, EA Mobile, Gameloft, Gamevil, Glu, Id Software, Machineworks Northwest LLC, Namco Networks, PopCap Games and THQ, have developed a wide array titles for the Zeebo platform.
