Elemental Previews New Video Processing System for Live Video Streaming
Posted on: Thursday, 1 October 2009, 09:48 CDT
PORTLAND, Ore., Oct. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Elemental Technologies, the leading provider of massively parallel video processing solutions, today announced the technical preview of its newest encoding innovation, enabling broadcasters to stream live video and audio to new media platforms. Elemental(TM) is partnering with iStreamPlanet, a leading provider of digital media strategy, services and software applications, to demonstrate GPU-powered HD live video streaming for the first time.
Consistent with Elemental's product suite, the technical preview uses the power of graphics processing units (GPUs) to produce up to four 1080p streams in real-time, giving content distributors unprecedented transmission density with higher performance and lower costs than are currently available in conventional solutions.
"Broadcasting isn't just about televisions anymore. Consumers want to be able to watch the content they care about as it happens on whatever device they choose," said Sam Blackman, CEO and chairman of Elemental Technologies. "Elemental's solutions facilitate content distributors using a single appliance to perform all the encoding required for adaptive streaming to multiple devices, both for on-demand and live workflows."
Elemental and iStreamPlanet are working together to provide live simultaneous HD and SD streams of the keynote addresses and main-stage presentations at the GPU Technology Conference presented by NVIDIA, which runs from Sept. 30 to Oct. 2 at the Fairmont Hotel in San Jose, Calif. Viewers can tune into www.nvidia.com/gtc to watch today's keynote live at 9 a.m. PST and on Friday at 8:30 a.m. PST.
"We are very pleased to have been chosen by NVIDIA to work with Elemental to provide the first GPU technology-powered live HD event," said Lou Greco, Executive Vice President of Sales, iStreamPlanet. "Having been involved in a number of HD media and entertainment- based events to-date, it is very exciting to see the enterprise market turning toward HD as well."
"The GPU Technology Conference is all about highlighting the amazing technologies that companies are building with massively parallel processors," said Rob Csonger, vice president of corporate marketing at NVIDIA. "Our live streaming of the event using Elemental's new solution is a prime example of the possibilities enabled by NVIDIA GPUs."
The technical preview of live streaming video, along with Elemental Server, an enterprise-class video processing system available soon, highlights Elemental's GPU-accelerated video encoding market leadership. Blackman will be presenting Elemental Server during the Emerging Companies Summit (Session #2014) today at 1 p.m. in the Cupertino room on the second floor of the Fairmont Hotel.
