T-Mobile Releases New Corporate Plan To Close Cellular Gap

Posted on: Monday, 5 October 2009, 11:02 CDT

Deutsche Telekom's T-Mobile USA will begin offering a wireless plan on Monday for office workers, in hopes that this will intensify its existence in the corporate market as runs after rivals like AT&T and Verizon.

T-Mobile USA thinks that their new plan puts together the BlackBerry phones from Research In Motion with Wi-Fi, and would help companies cut costs on phone calls.

Corporate BlackBerry users discard their desktop phones as their cell phones will connect to the Wi-Fi network from inside the office.

This will reduce the use of cellular minutes and will get rid of the need for costly land lines, T-Mobile USA said.

Analysts noted that T-Mobile USA as a completely wireless company has no concerns about fixed-line profits.

"From T-Mobile's perspective, this really launches them into the market," said Rob Arnold, enterprise communications analyst with Current Analysis, to Reuters News.

"They don't have the disadvantage of trying to protect their revenue streams" from fixed-line operations, he said, noting that any profits would be completely new revenue.

T-Mobile USA is fourth place in the U.S. mobile market and is behind in the high-end corporate arena.

Analysts state that they have to increase spending substantially to catch up with Verizon and AT&T.

The new corporate plan will apply a monthly fee to their regular cellular rates.

T-Mobile also guarantees no dropped calls. If a user moves away from a Wi-Fi area in a conversation, the call will mechanically switch to T-Mobile USA's cellular network.
