Airports Reopen After Passage Of Hurricane Emily

KINGSTON, Jamaica, July 16 /PRNewswire/ -- The Airports Authorities Limited have announced that as Hurricane Emily passes Jamaica the island's airports will reopen later today.

Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston which closed at 11:00 p.m. on Friday (12:00 a.m. Saturday EDT) will resume operations today, Saturday, July 16 at 6:00 p.m. (7:00 p.m. EDT) and Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay which closed at 12:00 a.m. (1:00 a.m. Saturday EDT) will resume operations today, Saturday, July 16 at 8:00 p.m. (9:00 p.m. EDT).

According to the operators of both airports, flights will be reinstated based on the operational circumstances of each individual airline.

A Hurricane Warning remains in effect for Jamaica as the system moves away from the island.

Emily is moving towards the west-northwest at 30 km/h (approximately 18 miles per hour) and this motion is expected to continue for the next 24 hours. The National Hurricane Center will continue to monitor the progress of the system.
