SCHAUMBURG, Ill., Oct. 14 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- The Enterprise Mobility Solutions business unit of Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) today announced the PTP 800 licensed microwave point-to-point (PTP) Ethernet solution operating in the 11, 18, 23 and 26 GHz frequency bands. Enterprise and government customers as well as service providers can deploy the Motorola PTP 800 to cost-effectively backhaul users' IP data and support a wide range of applications, including building-to-building connectivity, distance learning, last-mile access or wireless video surveillance.
Motorola has a long history in delivering field-proven wireless broadband connectivity to customers across the world, with more than 30,000 fixed wireless broadband links deployed to date and more than one billion field hours of operation between them. Building on this experience, the PTP 800 can help customers address changing market dynamics by delivering a smooth migration path to an IP-based infrastructure or providing a cost-effective way to expand an existing network. Providing private and public network operators with an affordable and reliable entry-point solution, the PTP 800 is also highly scalable through software license key upgrades, so customers can gradually increase throughput capacity as their bandwidth demands grow.
"Network operators want the flexibility to deploy both licensed and unlicensed fixed wireless broadband solutions, and seek technology providers that have the most complete portfolio to meet their current and future needs," said Scott Imhoff, director of point-to-point product management, Motorola Enterprise Mobility Solutions. "By adding a licensed microwave Ethernet solution to its portfolio, Motorola has enabled our partners to meet the diversified needs of customers and provide wireless broadband connectivity solutions that are affordable, reliable and secure."
Delivering network speeds ranging from 10 to 368 Mbps, full duplex on a single channel, and offering user-configured channel bandwidths from 7 to 56 MHz, Motorola's licensed microwave Ethernet solution meets the needs of small and large network operators. The PTP 800 features the smallest modem available in the market today and supports wall or rack mount deployments, helping remove customer dependency on rack space. Designed to support adaptive coding and modulation, Motorola's solution enables transmitters and receivers to negotiate the best mutually sustainable data rate, helping ensure the highest spectral efficiency and top throughput possible for the radio path, while providing the maximum link availability. The PTP 800 also comes equipped with unique asymmetric throughput control, enabling customers to regulate down- and up-link data rates depending on the types of applications and traffic patterns on their networks.
When deploying the PTP 800 licensed microwave Ethernet solution, customers can leverage the newly enhanced Motorola PTP LINKPlanner. Part of Motorola's One Point Wireless Suite, a set of powerful wireless network design and management solutions, this sophisticated planning tool enables network designers to project performance characteristics for multiple links prior to purchase, view the PTP links in Google Earth and obtain a bill of materials that lists all equipment required to deploy the network.
In addition, this innovative solution simplifies the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) licensing coordination process by providing an electronic report containing link design information. Once deployed, network administrators will have the flexibility of managing the PTP 800 using Motorola's One Point Wireless Manager, which offers network operators a new level of visibility through real-time, highly advanced visualization of their indoor and outdoor wireless networks in an embedded Google Maps environment, or by leveraging other third-party network management tools.
"The PTP LINKPlanner is a virtual tool that saves our engineering team time and valuable resources. It also creates a complete and accurate list of equipment required for the PTP 800 licensed band solution, which ensures customer satisfaction," said Martin Rielage, director of technical services, Convergence Technologies, Inc. "We expect a seamless migration for both the tool and the licensed band PTP 800 Series radios."
Customers can purchase the PTP 800 licensed microwave Ethernet solution beginning in the fourth quarter of 2009.
