Fujitsu Computer Products of America Appoints New CEO and COO; Reinforces Focus on Document Imaging Market

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Oct. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Fujitsu Computer Products of America, Inc., the market leader in document imaging scanners and services, announced that is has divested itself of the Hard Disk Drive ("HDD") business which operated under the Fujitsu Computer Products of America business unit alongside its Document Imaging group. Moving forward, the Document Imaging business operations remain the same, with the Scanning Solutions and Services business unit continuing to function as the exclusive group within Fujitsu Computer Products of America in Sunnyvale, California.

In February 2009, Fujitsu Ltd. entered into an agreement to transfer its global hard disk drive business to Toshiba Corporation, involving the transfer on a worldwide basis of the Fujitsu HDD design, development, manufacturing, sales divisions and all other related functions (except for HDD head and media businesses) to Toshiba. In the US, the HDD business assets of Fujitsu Computer Products of America have been transferred to Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc.

Fujitsu Computer Products of America also announced today the appointment of Etsuro Sato as President and Chief Executive Officer, and named Victor Kan Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer.

Effective immediately, Mr. Sato will lead Fujitsu Computer Products of America forward in its next phase of development.

Sato brings more than 30 years of experience to his new leadership position at Fujitsu Computer Products of America. Sato joined Fujitsu as Vice President, Imaging Products Group, where he directed the management of the scanner and service lines for the United States and Latin America, which includes the sales, marketing, engineering and customer support departments. Previously, Sato was Director of Business Development Marketing, System Products Group, Fujitsu Computer Systems, where he was responsible for business planning and operation strategies. His career has been devoted to international business, mainly in strategic planning and marketing of systems and peripherals, including seven years experience at Fujitsu Spain.

In his new role, Mr. Kan will lead the Fujitsu Computer Products of America day-to-day operations and continue his focus on business and product strategy development.

Kan takes over the EVP and COO position from his previous role at Fujitsu Computer Products of America as Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing. Kan has been in IT for over 20 years, the last 10 with Fujitsu, where he has served in several executive roles in sales, marketing, and service. In his tenure, he has launched over 70 products and services that have garnered dozens of industry awards. Under his guidance Fujitsu market share has grown rapidly and is widely recognized as the market leader in image scanners. Kan was also recently named a 2009 "Channel Chief" by Everything Channel's CRN.
