Huating Lake lies in Taihu County, Anqing City, Anhui Province. Known as the hometown of Huangmei Opera, Taihu County is also the place where Zen Buddhism originated. It is said to be the site that Huike, one of the earliest patriarchs of Chinese Zen buddhism, studied and practiced Zen Buddhism. He also served as Vice Chairman of the Ninth National Committee of the CPPCC, Honorary Chairman of the Central Committee of the China Association for Promoting Democracy, President of the Chinese Buddhist Academy, and President of the Buddhist Association of China.
