HULL, Canada--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 18, 2003--Versatel Networks, Inc., today announced CarrierTel as a customer of its SCS next-generation voice services platform. CarrierTel has deployed Versatel Networks' SCS 1500 within its network to support termination of its wholesale long distance and calling services.
"We selected the Versatel SCS switch because it is a highly reliable, cost-effective platform that takes advantage of the newest technologies available, allowing us to create innovative services and bring in new revenues without a huge capital outlay," said Tony Townsend, vice president of Carrier Solutions at CarrierTel. "We partnered with Versatel because we share the same philosophy that customer engineering and customer service are key to all service offerings."
CarrierTel is a world class provider of high quality voice services, offering a suite of enhanced carrier services, as well as solutions for consumers and the enterprise. The CarrierTel network is built for superior reliability, and to deliver massive volumes of voice, video, data and IP traffic. CarrierTel provides comprehensive seamless voice service packages with competitive pricing, worldwide network availability and nationwide origination and termination.
The Versatel Networks SCS family of products is purpose built for supporting enhanced voice services on a modular, open, CompactPCI chassis. The SCS solution includes a media server, media gateway capabilities, a signaling gateway and Versatel Networks' VSOS software for managing call control. Running redundantly at all times, VSOS separates call control from the switching fabric for enhanced reliability. Simultaneous support for VoIP and TDM network cards provides carriers with a smooth migration from PSTN to IP networks. Capital and operational expenses are minimized by using industry-standard components, eliminating costly and resource-intensive integration processes.
"CarrierTel is taking advantage of the SCS platform's ability to support new voice service revenue with minimal investment," said Robert Mimeault, president and CEO of Versatel Networks. "Versatel is helping service providers realize new revenue through new enhanced service offerings. From prepaid calling, conferencing and tandem solutions, to delivering new voice-enabled services, Versatel increases telephony margins by turning application ideas into application revenue."
