Vista Users Await Windows 7 Release

PC users who were dissatisfied with Microsoft’s Windows Vista operating system will soon get their chance to upgrade to the company’s new Windows 7 OS.

Windows 7 is set to launch October 22, just three years after the release of its predecessor, Windows Vista.

The formal launch is to take place over several days in New York with events featuring Microsoft’s Steve Ballmer and other company executives, according to BBC News.

Microsoft is also unveiling its first-ever retail store in Scottsdale, Arizona with additional plans for a second store in California.

Computer maker Dell said it is looking forward to an increase in demand for PC products with the upcoming release of Windows 7.

Stephen Schuckenbrock, Dell’s president for large enterprise, told reporters on Wednesday that demand for computers for the business sector should increase by as soon as mid-2010.

"Windows 7 is the best quality product launch that Microsoft has had in a very long time," said Schuckenbrock.

"When you consider that Vista was a bust, Windows 7 is a capability upgrade on a scale that has really never been seen before."

Microsoft is also working with Seth MacFarlane, creator of the TV show Family Guy, to develop a Windows 7 themed episode that will air November 8.

Windows 7 will be released in six different editions.
