Growth Opportunities in the Philippines Telecom Industry

Posted on: Friday, 23 October 2009, 05:19 CDT

MANILA, Philippines, Oct. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- The Philippines telecom industry has been highly successful in the Southeast Asia region. The future holds even more promising growth opportunities as the country's leading operators focus on growing their broadband network infrastructure ranging from mobile broadband to the all new fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) service in the main cities. Mobile penetration driven by popularity of prepaid packages and text messaging, is more than 78 percent, ahead of many markets in the region.

Future revenue growth is expected to be driven by wireless broadband adoption and the plausible entry of more wireless competitors. Moreover, the regulatory reforms under consideration promise rising competition leading to further growth opportunities in the Philippines' telecom market.

To discuss current growth opportunities in the Philippines Telecoms industry, Frost & Sullivan is organizing an executive summit titled Philippines Telecom International Summit 2009. The summit will be held in Manila on November 6, 2009 from 9:00 am onwards.

Mr. Ray Anthony Roxas-Chua III, Secretary, the Commission on Information and Communications Technology (CICT), Office of the President of the Philippines will grace the summit as the guest of honor and also give the opening keynote address on the policies, plans and priorities for digital convergence and universal broadband access in the Philippines.

The summit will also feature the national regulator, Commissioner Gamaliel A. Cordoba of the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC), who will underline the regulatory initiatives to drive further industry growth.

Endorsed by CICT, the summit will delve deep into pertinent topics offering insights and information about the industry and explore strategic technology, service and business issues crucial to future market capabilities.

Mr. Nitin Bhat, Senior Vice President for ICT practice at Frost & Sullivan, says, "We believe the Philippines telecoms market is at an inflection point and the future is going to be very different in terms of profitability, service-mix, network requirements, organizational capabilities and eco-system co-operation."

Talking on growth opportunities, Bhat says, "The relative infancy of non-SMS data revenue in Philippines is beginning to change with rapid growth in mobile broadband subscribers in the country. The latent demand for broadband satisfied by mobile players will make the 3G network expansion business-case more attractive. Philippines operators on back of high SMS revenues leading to lower network usage enjoyed one of the highest EBIDTA margins in the region which would change in the future."

The day-long summit will bring together senior executives from the country and the region to discuss strategic and tactical issues faced by the industry. Hear from our line-up of experts as they share their experiences and insights on striking the right chord with your customers. Speakers include representatives from Globe Telecom, Smart Communications, Bayan Telecommunications, Axiata Group, GSM Association, Qualcomm, Mabuhay Satellite Corporation and others, along with senior analysts from Frost & Sullivan.

The summit has been designed to enable interaction between the thought leaders and participants. Sessions include keynote address, industry updates from Frost & Sullivan's senior analysts, case study presentations, 'C-level dialogue' panel, and concurrent track sessions on a variety of topics.

Clarity and Qualcomm are gold sponsors; Intec is the executive briefing sponsor while Amdocs and Elite Core are partner sponsors for the summit.

GSA, GSMA Mobile Broadband, PETEF, UMTS Forum and WIP are the supporting associations for the summit.
