VocalData Unveils New, Simplified System Administration Capabilities for its VOISS Hosted IP Telephony Solution

BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 22, 2003--
Designed with Familiar "Look and Feel" of Windows(TM) Explorer(TM),
New Functionality Will Speed Set-up for End Customers by 30 Percent
VocalData, Inc., an application developer of hosted IP telephony solutions, today unveiled the latest version of its VOISS(TM) application server software, designed to simplify system administration for carriers and their enterprise customers.
The new capabilities are designed to enable service providers, wholesalers, resellers and customers to completely streamline the initial set up and ongoing maintenance of the various components of the VocalData hosted IP telephony VOISS application server. VocalData estimates that the new system administration capabilities will speed end-customer account set up time by 30 percent.
"VocalData's VOISS hosted IP telephony solution was already recognized as having one of the most user-friendly system administration interfaces on the market," said Mark Whittier, vice president of corporate marketing. "Now we have enhanced it even further to provide our carriers with interface tools for a flexible and customizable hosted PBX solution - and one that allows carriers to also make administration easier for their end customers."
To make administration more user-friendly, the software now has the familiar look and feel of Windows(TM) Explorer(TM). The software is Web-based, allowing system administrators to configure and diagnose VOISS either from a centralized or a remote location to ensure high-quality IP Centrex operations.
The application is also designed to run on the administrator's local machine and send updates to the server without disturbing the user, thus allowing greater speed and more efficient use of bandwidth. Because the application is not tied to the browser and its memory space, administrators can even close the browser and still administer the database.
Because of the new Windows(TM)-like configuration, system administrators can now complete several different setup tasks simultaneously by opening multiple windows. For instance, if administrators are setting up a user and suddenly realize that they have not created a template for the user's phone, they can easily open another screen and build that template without losing the user information that was already entered.
The new software also allows administrators to provision users in bulk as well as set up end user mailboxes in bulk by creating a spreadsheet template that they can use over and over again - instead of having to manually type in the same data for several different users.
Because of the software's new advanced search capabilities, service providers and their end users can quickly locate a specific customer segment - such as higher priority customers or customers using a particular phone type - using easily searchable fields.
The system is also now more customizable, making it easier for service providers to change customer-accessible menus simply by changing XML files. Among other things, this allows service providers to brand or customize their user-facing administrative menus and tools.
Overall, the system provides users with user-friendly next-generation order entry and element management capabilities that are infinitely superior to legacy PBX systems, most of which are not based on a graphical user interface (GUI) and instead require Command Line Interfaces.
Of course, the new software also includes many of the previous version's advanced features, such as the ability to push down relevant system setup and maintenance to resellers or end customers as well as the presence of easy-to-use setup Wizards that walk administrators step by step through basic configuration tasks. The VOISS 4.5 software is currently in Beta testing and will be commercially available on October 1.
