T-Mobile To Offer Contract-Free Plans

T-Mobile USA has launched a new series of plans that feature unlimited services without requiring customers to sign for a service contract.
According to Reuters, T-Mobile, a subsidiary of Deutsche Telekom AG has seen its numbers dwindle with the emergence of its competitors, such as Leap Wireless and MetroPCS Communications.
The company will now offer an unlimited talk, text and Web plan for customers without requiring a 2-year service contract, for $79.99.
By comparison, T-Mobile customers that sign on to a 2-year contract are charged $99.99 per month for unlimited plans, but they get a discount on the purchase of a mobile device.
The company also said it would offer a standard unlimited service for customers who do not sign a contract, at a cost of $50.
"In our opinion, the new plans are more benign than investors' initial fears and could relieve some pressure on wireless stocks," Piper Jaffray analyst Christopher Larsen wrote.
Analysts had expected T-Mobile to offer a $50 monthly unlimited voice and data service plan for its entire customer base, which would have likely created a price war among competing firms.
