AuthenTec Wins ''Tomorrow's Technology Today'' Award For Innovation in Advancing Information Security

Posted on: Monday, 18 July 2005, 09:00 CDT

AuthenTec, the world leader in fingerprint sensor innovation and sales for more than five years, has won a coveted "Tomorrow's Technology Today" award for developing innovative biometric products that advance information security.

AuthenTec was one of only 16 companies worldwide whose products were recognized by the Info Security Products Guide for advancing information security in 2005. AuthenTec fingerprint sensors provide advanced security to nearly 5 million devices worldwide, including more than 100 different models of notebook and tablet computers, portable hard drives, password managers, mice, pens, keyboards, memory keys, cell phones and others.

AuthenTec sensors are widely used in notebook and tablet PCs to provide advanced security and to replace the need for passwords -- allowing authorized users to easily and quickly access their files by simply touching or sliding their finger across the sensor surface, while restricting access to the computer and its files to only those enrolled. In cell phones, AuthenTec sensors authenticate the phone's user - protecting buddy lists and stored photos, and providing additional security for m-commerce and mobile banking services that are gaining popularity worldwide.

"The prestigious 'Tomorrow's Technology Today 2005 Award' honors excellence in technologies that are providing leadership and helping shape the information security industry," said Judy Shelton, group editor, Silicon Valley Communications, publishers of the Info Security Products Guide. "Fingerprint biometrics like the AuthenTec solution provide heightened security to PC and mobile devices - and their users' data."

"We are honored to be recognized for innovation in advancing information security, which is the foundation of our company," said Peter Sherlock, vice president of product development for AuthenTec. "Using our patented TruePrint technology, we will continue to introduce even more advanced, innovative solutions that are designed specifically to protect information in mobile PCs and cell phones."

AuthenTec's TruePrint(R) technology is the only technology that allows fingerprints to be read below the surface of the skin to the live layer - or true fingerprint. As such, TruePrint is not affected by common skin surface conditions, including dry, worn, calloused, dirty or oily skin that can affect other sensors' ability to acquire accurate fingerprint images for user authentication purposes.
