July 18, 2005
The U.S. cable network, Spike TV, Monday acquired the rerun rights of the FX series The Shield from Sony Pictures Television.
Spike TV — billed as the first network for men — will start running the popular series from its beginning starting in March 2006, officials announced Monday.
The Shield won a Golden Globe Award for Best Drama Series in 2003 and received two 2005 Emmy nominations.
Robert Friedman, Spike TV senior vice president of programming, said The Shield complement’s the network’s male-branded strategy.
Spike TV is available in 88 million U.S. homes and is a division of MTV Networks.
