Twitter co-founder Biz Stone on Monday announced the company’s plans to follow through with eliminating the “suggested users” list from its microblogging Web site.

"That list will be going away," Stone told reporters during a young entrepreneurs meeting in Malaysia.

"In its stead will be something that is more programmatically chosen, something that actually delivers more relevant suggestions."

Speaking at a Web 2.0 summit in San Francisco last month, Twitter co-founder Evan Williams alluded to the company’s plans to rid itself of the controversial suggested users list in order to allow Twitter members to discover other users to follow on their own.

According to the Associated Press, Williams said the controversial list was launched to help new Twitter users discover people to follow on the site.

The suggested user list will be phased out with the initiation of a new feature that will allow people to create their own list of suggested users to follow.

Stone said the new list would allow users to create their own suggested list based on their likes and dislikes.

According to the AP, Twitter has said the list is based on users "who show that they provide value by posting often and engaging with their followers."

"Ninety-seven percent of our efforts are basically on delivering user value," said Stone. "Everyone is still experimenting. It’s still young, it’s still early. Anything goes right now as we figure out what works and what doesn’t work."
