Video To Increase Web Traffic Sixfold, Says Cisco VP

In a statement during the Internet Governance Forum (IGF) in Egypt's Red Sea Resort Sharm el-Sheikh, a Cisco vice president said that video has caused Internet traffic to boom.

Robert Pepper said traffic will increase sixfold from 2007 to 2012.

"It's growing at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 46 percent and this is being driven by video," he said. "Video is the driver. Make no question about that."

Pepper said video allows users to interact more online, regardless of language or literacy.

He was speaking at the IGF's "Preparing the Young Generations in the Digital Age: A Shared Responsibility" session, according to AFP.
