Microsoft, News Corp Discuss Possible Alliance Against Google

Microsoft has reportedly been in talks with News Corp about a possible alliance that could find the media giant being paid to remove its content from Google News.
A source close to the matter has told reporters that the talks with Microsoft were initiated by Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp, and are in the early stages.
"This is all about Microsoft hurting Google's margin," a source told the Financial Times.
Earlier this month, Google responded to a threat made by News Corp Chief Murdoch in which he told Sky News Australia that he would be looking in to ways to remove stories from his news empire from Google News.
News Corp had made a previous announcement that it would begin to charge customers for access to its news content online.
"There's a doctrine called 'fair use', which we believe to be challenged in the courts and would bar it altogether," Murdoch told Sky.
"But we'll take that slowly."
Google responded by stating that any news entity could request to have its content removed from the search engine.
“Google News and web search are a tremendous source of promotion for news organizations, sending them about 100,000 clicks every minute,” said one Google spokesman.
“Publishers put their content on the web because they want it to be found, so very few choose not to include their material in Google News and web search. But if they tell us not to include it, we don't.”
“If publishers want their content to be removed from Google News specifically all they need to do it tell us,” Google said in a statement.
“News organizations are in complete control over whether and how much of their content appears in search results."
