Lumeta Makes Multi-Million Dollar Donation to the New York Institute of Technology’s Cyber Security Program
SOMERSET, N.J., Dec. 1 /PRNewswire/ — Lumeta Corporation, the leading provider of network discovery solutions for enterprise and government agencies, today announced that it has made a multi-million dollar donation of services, hardware and software systems to the Center for Network and Information Security at New York Institute of Technology (NYIT).
The New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) offers undergraduate, graduate, and professional degrees in more than 90 fields of study, with more than 15,000 students taking courses at its Long Island and Manhattan campuses in New York, at its global campuses and online. After the events of September 11, 2001, NYIT received a federal grant to build a new cybersecurity lab for the purpose of meeting the growing need for students trained to defend both private organizations and government agencies against cyber attacks directed at IT networks. Lumeta has donated its IPsonar system, an unlimited scanning license, and five years of maintenance and training support to be used in conjunction with these efforts.
With IPsonar, students will be able to analyze the connectivity between assets and networks, uncover risk patterns, and automate the enforcement of network policies as they research ways to improve cybersecurity and uncover new threats. The donation to NYIT is part of Lumeta’s ongoing partnership efforts with qualified educational institutions and research labs for initiatives such as product testing, cybersecurity training, and network and internet mapping research. These partnerships are offered to the nation’s leading academic institutions for use in their computer science divisions including cybersecurity programs, information assurance programs, network management labs and others.
“As our students and faculty probe the constantly growing threat of cyber attacks on both private and public sector organizations, it’s important that we use the same systems that security experts have deployed within large companies and government agencies,” said Dr. Ayat Jafari, chair of NYIT’s Department of Engineering and Computer Science. “Lumeta’s IPsonar will serve as a valuable tool for NYIT’s students and faculty, and we are grateful to be able to use this state-of-the art tool in our research and independent network security projects.”
“With our network discovery system deployed at most of the U.S. government’s three-letter agencies and many of the Fortune 500, we believe that it’s important for cybersecurity students to have hands-on experience with IPsonar,” said Michael Markulec, chief operating officer at Lumeta. “We’re proud to have been able to provide one of the nation’s leading cybersecurity educational centers with our system.”
New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) offers undergraduate, graduate, and professional degrees in more than 90 fields of study, including architecture and interior design; arts and sciences; education; engineering and computing sciences; health professions; management; and osteopathic medicine. A non-profit independent, private institution of higher education, NYIT has more than 15,000 students attending campuses in Long Island and Manhattan, online, and at its global campuses. For more than 50 years, NYIT has been guided by its mission to provide career-oriented professional education, offer access to opportunity and access to all qualified students and support applications-oriented research that benefits the larger world. To date, 81,500 students have graduated from NYIT. For more information, visit www.nyit.edu.
