synthesis – Is GenY Really Different? – Y-schmy

Repost This

SEATTLE, Dec. 4 /PRNewswire/ — The following blog post was published on December 1, 2009, by Shafeen Charania, author of the synthesis blog, winner of the 2008 Weblog award for best new blog, and Time.com’s 25 best blogs of 2009.

Is Generation Y really that much of a mystery? Many consultants are preying on employers with statistics (like GenY is 80 million Americans strong – this is larger even than the baby boomer generation), and social media concepts, etc., saying that they’d better “get with the program” or lose out on this valuable demographic.

But are they really that different? At the end of the day – the differences are much smaller than we might think; and fundamentally, as an employer, I should be much more focused on being consistent and great for all my employees, and not just one group.
