Postal Services Gets Own Web Address

Postal services worldwide will soon be getting their own web address.

ICANN said on Friday it had approved the new address dot post (.post).

The managing rights for this domain name are now with UN's Universal Postal Union.

They would be setting the rules on which organization can apply for this type of domain name.

Universal Postal Union spoke about the new developments: "People who access a .post site will immediately recognize it as belonging to a valid postal service or provider of postal services."

It added, "Postal services will explore new frontiers and basically go where no postal services have gone before."

ICANN is hoping to have these new domain names online before the end of next year.
