5G Wireless Upgrades Marina del Rey Network
MARINA DEL REY, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–June 19, 2003–5G Wireless (OTCBB:FGWC) announced today that it has begun capital improvements to its Marina del Rey facility by bringing a fiber connection to the Marina tower.
“We’ve contracted with Multipoint International, a Los Angeles-based internet gateway provider, to provide the backbone for the tower and with Race Technologies, a San Francisco-based long haul fiber company, to backhaul traffic from the tower to the Los Angeles gateway. We now have a secured fiber connection for our 12-panel array atop the Marina Towers all the way to the downtown Los Angeles internet gateway,” stated Jerry Dix, President and CEO of 5G Wireless.
“By upgrading our tower links from telco-T1 connections to fiber, we will avoid traditional telco bottlenecks and local loop charges while providing for greater expandability as we grow the network. This improvement will allow us the fastest possible network connections which will be offered to our residential, business, and WiFi HotZone(TM) internet subscribers,” stated Brian Corty, Chief Technology Officer for 5G Wireless.
With its proprietary 802.11b technology enhancements, including a service range of 5-8 miles, near line-sight capability to penetrate natural and manmade obstacles, and an integrated CPE (Customer Premises Equipment) unit that allows for rapid deployment, the 5G internet service package consistently delivers the fastest speeds at the lowest costs for both residential and business subscribers.
“We’ll be doubling our bandwidth with expandability up to 1 Gigabyte,” continued Corty. “The upgrade will also provide a more stable, reliable connection, and this will become our model configuration for all future installations. We’re also in final negotiations with a secondary fiber provider so that we will have redundancy for the network.”
The company was recently profiled by BusinessWeek Online and 802.11 Planet, “The Source for Wi-Fi Business and Technology.” In the piece entitled “Long Distance Wi-Fi,” (www.80211planet.com/columns/article.php/2191841) Eddie Hold, a wireless analyst with Current Analysis in Sterling, VA, maintains that this breakthrough “could considerably change the nature of the Wi-Fi market.”
