MOSCOW. July 19 (Interfax) - Russian Railways company will launch a new automated traffic security control system in 2006, says a release issued by the company on Tuesday.
Placing the new system into operation will not require any major capital investment, as it is based on data transmission systems that are already in use on the railroads, the release said.
More than 90% of accidents are caused by lack of skills and discipline on the part of personnel, it said. The new system will activate security devices automatically, the report says.
In addition, Russian Railroads plans to fit 277 level crossings with security barriers in 2005. Today more than 850 crossings are equipped with such facilities.
The company has allocated 2.38 billion rubles for security measures in the first half of 2005.
