LogicLibrary Customers Discuss Software Development Asset Reuse Best Practices and Metrics

Posted on: Thursday, 21 July 2005, 09:00 CDT

LogicLibrary(R), the leading provider of software development asset (SDA) management tools, today announced that top business and IT representatives from several Global 2000 companies attended the company's second "Customer Care" Logidex user group session. The June 22 virtual conference provided a forum for some of the leading insurance and financial services providers to discuss their SDA management initiatives and the role that software reuse plays in their service-oriented architecture (SOA) governance programs. Logidex, LogicLibrary's flagship product, is the industry's premier solution for managing, reusing and governing SDAs in development and SOA projects.

In his keynote address, LogicLibrary CEO and President Greg Coticchia stressed the invaluable role that SDA management and strategic business value metrics play for leading enterprises. Highmark, Liberty Mutual and MetLife were just a few of the more than 20 Global 2000 companies that chose to participate in the latest user group session. The objectives achieved during the forum were; establishing a metrics point of view on reuse, suggesting recommended reuse metrics, defining the intrinsic value of reuse and explaining ways to organize and achieve the benefits of reuse. In addition, participating Logidex users provided input and direction concerning product strategy and design.

"LogicLibrary's 'Customer Care' sessions have become a unique forum for Logidex users to discuss building, implementing and deploying SOAs as well as drive innovation available to them in Logidex. Customer feedback drives as much as 40 percent of the innovations in each new product release from LogicLibrary," said Coticchia. "We are particularly enthusiastic about the way in which LogicLibrary's exciting and rapidly growing customer base has taken ownership of the event as a means of exchanging ideas and sharing information. We look forward to eventually making this virtual user group session a traditional conference event."

The session also featured a ground-breaking presentation by renowned software reuse expert and Lockheed Martin Systems Architect Dr. Jeffrey Poulin examining how to define and easily implement a software reuse metrics program. The session concluded that code, patterns and documents reused during development deliver substantial ROI and additional savings in maintenance, quality and time-to-market.

"Reusable components are historically proven to have about 10 times better quality than non-reusable assets," observed Dr. Poulin, whose landmark work on the business case for software reuse forms the basis for the reuse measurements and ROI models used by organizations worldwide. "In addition to improved quality, companies that establish a reuse process are able to reduce costs significantly by encouraging component reuse. The rule of thumb is that about 80 percent of development costs can be avoided by reusing something that already exists."

The Logidex Service Center, a support site for Logidex users, features LogicLibrary's Product Enhancement and Request for Support (PERFS) system, a Web site where customers can make suggestions on how to improve Logidex and ask support questions. The Logidex Service Center ensures that LogicLibrary customers have the products and information necessary to derive the greatest value from their software development and SOA projects by providing access to the latest upgrades and supporting tools, as well as installation documentation.
