Seapine Software's Surround SCM 4.0 Manages Change Across the Enterprise and Around the World

Seapine Software, Inc., a leading provider of adaptable application lifecycle management (AALM) solutions, announced today the immediate availability of Surround SCM 4.0 for software change management (SCM). Version 4.0 of Seapine's cross-platform SCM solution adds advanced features such as full WebDAV and Unicode support, improved branch management, and enhanced reports.

Increasing Surround SCM's ability to address the needs of enterprise users, version 4.0 offers full support for WebDAV. This feature gives users access to the most recent versions of their files from any Web browser. WebDAV support also enables users to integrate Surround SCM into Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) Windows Explorer, Mac OS X Finder, Linux davfs filesystem, Adobe Photoshop 7.0, and additional applications.

"With Surround SCM 4.0, non-technical users can realize the benefits of change control and versioning without changing the way they work or learning a new application," said Richard Riccetti, Seapine Software's president and CEO. "From the end user's perspective, they are just accessing their files on another network drive--with the added benefit that they can roll back to an older file version or compare two versions when necessary."

To accommodate development teams and users developing products for markets outside North America and Western Europe, Surround SCM 4.0 includes full Unicode support, allowing users to work with files, labels, and comments in any language. All Surround SCM 4.0 clients on all supported operating systems are Unicode enabled.

In addition, Surround SCM 4.0 users can now easily view differences between selected file versions or all file versions in a selected branch. The resulting differences report is generated in standard diff format for use with third-party file patch utilities such as the open source tool GNU patch. Other enhancements in Surround SCM 4.0 include new branch attributes, automatic software update notification, and more.
