Nook To Hit Store Shelves Wednesday
Barnes & Noble said on Monday that its Nook electronic reader would be available for purchase in the company's physical stores beginning Wednesday.
The announcement follows weeks of delay as the nation's No. 1 bookstore chain struggled to meet soaring demand for the device in late 2009, when the Nook was available only through the company's Web site or at in-store kiosks.
The company's in-store debut had originally been expected in December, but was delayed after the device sold out ahead of the holidays and production was not sufficiently ramped up.
The Nook, which New York-based Barnes & Noble launched in October, will compete with other e-readers such as Amazon.com's kindle.
The company said it was shipping its Nook e-readers to most of its stores beginning this week, with the devices set to go on sale in stores as of Wednesday.
Anyone interested in finding a specific store with the Nook in stock can go to http://www.barnesandnoble.com/nook/instore/ to check availability. The site will be updated daily beginning Wednesday.
