Russian, Chinese Transport Ministers Discuss Cooperation

BEIJING. July 21 (Interfax) – The Russian and Chinese transport ministers met on Thursday to discuss transport cooperation, Russian Transport Minister Igor Levitin told the press.

Levitin took part in a session of a Russian-Chinese subcommission on transport cooperation in Beijing on Thursday.

Common understandings on truck cargo transport was reached at the session, Levitin said. Russia has increased the number of certificates needed for Russian companies to transport cargo to China. In addition, it was agreed to remove restrictions on the transport of large cargo items.

Russia promised to consider increasing the number of Chinese planes flying over its territory in 2008, to take passengers to the Olympics in Beijing.

The opening of the new Krasnoyarsk-Beijing air route makes flights along the Canada-Krasnoyarsk-Beijing route possible. Canada has shown an interest in having this route opened.
