BEIJING. July 21 (Interfax-China) - The Transport Ministry and Russian Railways company are prepared to transport 10 million tonnes of oil to China in 2005, in compliance with bilateral agreements, Transport Minister Igor Levitin said in Beijing on Thursday.
Levitin told Russian journalists that 3.7 million tonnes of oil were delivered to China in the first half of 2005. This volume was insufficient, but resulted from oil companies failing to provide enough oil, he said.
By 2007, Russia will be ready to supply 15 million tonnes of oil to China a year, he said.
Levitin said that trade is growing between Russia and China and the two countries' railways must ensure uninterrupted cargo transport. This will require construction of new railway infrastructure, primarily in Siberia and the Far East. "Unfortunately, Russia is lagging far behind China in this respect," he said.
Russia and China plan to increase trade to $60 billion by 2010, he said.
