Progress Software Makes Manufacturing Business Technology Magazine's Global 100 Listing of Leading IT Providers

Posted on: Friday, 22 July 2005, 15:00 CDT

From Supply Chain Management to Plant Floor Automation, IT Drives Productivity Improvement at Nearly Twice the Rate of that of the General Economy; Progress Ranks as Smart Choice

Progress Software Corporation (Nasdaq: PRGS), a global supplier of application infrastructure software used to develop, deploy, integrate and manage business applications, today announced that Progress Software Corporation ranked 46th in Manufacturing Business Technology magazine's 13th annual Global 100 listing of leading IT providers in manufacturing and supply chain. Categories of technology solution vendors in the 2005 Global 100 include computing infrastructure, enterprise & supply chain, plant-floor operations, business performance and services. The 2005 Global 100 rankings are based on vendor revenues in calendar year 2004 and additional fact-based research.

This rich mix of categories presents a true picture of the state of an IT industry where category boundaries of all kinds are blurring--between computing infrastructure and service-oriented applications. Also included in the list are technology and services, software application, automation and data storage vendors such as IBM, Hewlett-Packard, Microsoft, Sun Microsystems, Siemens, ABB Automation, Oracle, SAP, EMC Corp. and Invensys Process Systems.

Further, the list highlights the important role that the use of IT plays in manufacturing and supply chain, where it is widely credited for continuing productivity gains in the manufacturing sector, allowing factories to remain competitive based on increased output per unit of work.

"We are pleased to have Manufacturing Business Technology recognize the value Progress(R) technology brings to IT through its ease of use, low total cost-of-ownership, scalability and flexibility," said Gordon Van Huizen, chief technology officer at Progress Software. "At Progress we are committed to developing technology that makes it easier for IT organizations to support business goals from the factory floor to corporate headquarters."
