(SIE.FK) Siemens Presents the Smallest Tri-Band GSM/GPRS Modules for Global Use in GSM Networks
Posted on: Tuesday, 14 October 2003, 06:00 CDT
MUNICH, Germany--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 14, 2003--With its MC55 and MC56 GSM/GPRS modules, Siemens' (NYSE:SI) (FWB:SIE) mobile communications Group - Siemens mobile for short - is rolling out two new tri-band solutions for integration in mobile phones, PDAs, and other mobile devices. Particularly suited for mass production, these modules will lower the cost of developing mobile phones and PDAs and thus help customers get their products to market more quickly.
The MC55/MC56 modules are currently the smallest tri-band GSM/GPRS modules on the global market. Clearly smaller than a book of matches (35 x 32.5 x 2.95 mm), they can be easily and flexibly integrated in mobile phones, smartphones, PDAs, PC Cards, and other mobile devices. The ex-works delivery packages also include a driver for the Microsoft Windows mobile operating system to ensure compatibility with Microsoft's smartphones and Pocket PCs. Both modules operate in all GSM networks around the world. The MC55 supports the 900, 1800, and 1900 MHz frequencies for Asia and Europe; the MC56 operates on the frequencies 850, 1800, and 1900 MHz and is thus especially well suited for the North and Latin American market.
Each of the modules has global approval in accordance with R&TTE, FCC, GCF and PTCRB test standards. Carrier approvals have also been granted. Moreover, comprehensive support services and Siemens mobile's many years of experience in the mobile communications market will also help customers lower the costs and risks of developing mobile devices and speed time-to-market for new applications.
