Sunbelt Software Upgrades Next-Generation Dynamic Malware Analysis Tool
WASHINGTON, March 23 /PRNewswire/ — GovSec 2010 — Sunbelt Software, a leading provider of Windows security software, today announced the availability of Sunbelt CWSandbox(TM) version 3.0, the industry’s premier automated dynamic malware analysis tool. CWSandbox leverages unique behavior analysis technology for the identification of malicious threats like PDF exploits, fake media players and other socially engineered attacks against enterprise or government networks. This advanced offering is generated by the world-class research efforts of SunbeltLabs(TM), the malware research and analysis division of Sunbelt Software.
CWSandbox v3.0 enables security analysts and incident response teams to analyze the behavior of suspected files by executing code inside a controlled and monitored environment. It records all malicious activity including system changes, network traffic and memory dumps. One of the key features now in CWSandbox is the groundbreaking, proprietary Digital Behavior Traits (DBT(TM)) technology, which intelligently interprets the behavior of a file, ad, document or website to determine automatically whether it is malicious. This feature is critical in the effort to quickly discover new malware that has not yet been uncovered by traditional antivirus tools.
CWSandbox gives users the ability to safely analyze virtually any Windows application or file including infected documents, malicious URLs, custom applications and scripts in Flash ads. It also gives researchers the ability to compare multiple analyses for differences and similarities, and to send malware samples to multiple sandbox configurations and centrally manage the process. Unlike other malware analysis tools on the market today, CWSandbox provides true automation to analyze in bulk and save crucial time.
By simulating the way in which a user would interact with a rogue application, CWSandbox automates what is otherwise a manual process. Rather than analyzing new threats on a case-by-case basis, security researchers can now simultaneously compare how malware operates in multiple environments.
“Automated threat analysis is essential to organizations that are targeted by malware writers with brand new viruses that have not yet been categorized or catalogued by traditional antivirus solutions,” said Chad Loeven, vice president and general manager for SunbeltLabs. “Especially when it comes to our nation’s cyber-defense, the front lines need the right advanced analysis tools to be able to protect critical data.”
Sunbelt’s CWSandbox and the VIPRE Enterprise Premium solution will be on display today and tomorrow in Booth #1236 of the Cybersecurity Pavilion at the GovSec/U.S. Law Conference 2010 in the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, Washington, DC. The technology is utilized by multiple U.S. defense, intelligence and other federal agencies.
