April 12, 2010

ANDOVER, Kan., April 12 /PRNewswire/ — The award-winning Andover School District today announced the launch of Andover eCademy: The Kansas Cyber School, a free, online public school program for K-12 students in Kansas. Beginning in April, Andover eCademy will be holding a series of information sessions in Kansas for families with students in grades K-12 who want to learn more about this exciting new online program.

“At Andover, we understand that students are individuals, and not all of them learn in the same way. With the Andover eCademy program, students can learn at any time and at their own pace, while also having access to support, feedback and guidance throughout their online experience,” said Mark Evans, Superintendent, Andover School District.

Andover will be offering 22 in-person information sessions across the state throughout April, May, June, and July. The events, which are scheduled in the early evenings, will last approximately one hour each, and admissions counselors will be available to answer parents’ questions at each site. In April, Andover eCademy will host information sessions in Overland Park, Wichita, Hutchinson, and Topeka. For more details please visit: www.andoverecademy.org.

Andover eCademy is a new program being offered by the award-winning Andover School District. Students in Kansas can now get the same high-quality, state-certified education they expect from Andover schools – available online and completely tuition-free.

Andover eCademy provides the flexibility for each student to learn at his or her own pace, with the guidance of highly qualified, state-certified teachers who are committed to providing the best possible online learning environment.

Students who enroll in Andover eCademy will use interactive videos, games, 3-D graphics, avatars, discussion boards, hands-on manipulatives, language labs, and Flash animation to learn in a unique and personalized online environment. Every Andover eCademy student will receive a custom-designed course of study to meet his or her individual needs and abilities.

In addition to the flexible online curriculum, students who enroll in Andover eCademy will have myriad opportunities to participate in extracurricular activities, including clubs, interest groups, field trips, and group outings. Andover eCademy will also have an active social networking component for students and parents – and interested families can check out the school’s page on Facebook.

“We are excited to be offering this new program to families and students across Kansas, and we know that interested families will have a lot of questions about how a cyber school might work for their children,” said Mr. Evans. “That’s why we are hosting these information sessions – to answer families’ questions and to explain how Andover eCademy may meet their families’ needs.”
