Black Duck Expands Management Team With Veteran Business Development Executive
Posted on: Wednesday, 27 July 2005, 09:00 CDT
Black Duck Software, the leading provider of software compliance management solutions, today announced the appointment of Jim Hogan as Vice President of Business Development. Hogan will lead strategic alliance initiatives for Black Duck and its protexIP(TM) suite. An industry veteran, Hogan brings more than 25 years of software experience to Black Duck with a strong track record of driving significant revenue-generating strategic business relationships.
Most recently, Jim was vice president of marketing and business development at Tablus. Previously, he held vice president and general management positions at numerous other successful technology firms including Confluent Software, Placeware, Zitel, CyberSource and CompuServe. He was also co-founder, president & CEO of Silicon Systems and Technologies, and vice president of marketing for Advanced Workstations and Systems at IBM.
"Jim is a seasoned executive with a proven ability to execute highly successful growth strategies for technology companies," said Douglas A. Levin, CEO of Black Duck Software. "He will play a significant role in developing global business for our protexIP service by forming and driving market-expanding partnerships and channel agreements."
"I look forward to contributing to Black Duck's growth by helping customers and partners solve the increasingly complex and painful problem of managing software license compliance," said Jim Hogan, VP of business development. "It's clear that IP management is becoming an important focus of every company that engages in software development and that Black Duck delivers significant business value from reduced risk and improved productivity."
The move toward component-based development and the exploding use of open source software have made it increasingly difficult for businesses to attest to the origins and obligations associated with their software assets. Black Duck helps enterprises, vendors, outsourcers, integrators and government agencies preserve the value of their software intellectual property (IP) by providing products and services for understanding and safely managing software license compliance.
Black Duck's protexIP software compliance management suite brings developers, lawyers, and business decision-makers together within an automated system that identifies when the use of software is in conflict with licensing terms or corporate policies, facilitates the ongoing protection of corporate IP, and assists with compliance and reporting. protexIP helps companies reduce business risk, avoid costly IP-related product delays, and accelerate software development through the more effective use of licensed software assets.
Jim Hogan, a California resident, will be based out of the company's San Mateo, CA facility where he will leverage his established relationships with many of the world's leading technology companies to advance the adoption of Black Duck's software compliance management solutions.
