Alcatel Wins Networking and Communications Award in Leading Partner Publication VARBusiness

CALABASAS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 14, 2003--Alcatel (NYSE:ALA) announced today that it has won the VARBusiness' 18th Annual Report Card (ARC) competition in the category of Networking and Communications solutions. VARBusiness is the leading business-to-business magazine for the solution provider community and the ARC survey is a study of 75 vendor programs across 18 product categories.

In the published article, it is observed that Alcatel pulled off the biggest upset victory in this year's ARC -- taking the award away from a three-time winner, as well as other competitors in enterprise networking and communications. "Alcatel won the Overall and Partnership awards in the Communications Networking Solutions category by doing the best job of providing VARs with the tools they need to integrate voice & data/products and services," said Robert C.
