CTIA-The Wireless Association® Statement on the FCC’s ‘Wireless World Travel Week’
WASHINGTON, June 21 /PRNewswire/ — After the FCC announced the “Wireless World Travel Week,” CTIA-The Wireless Association® President and CEO Steve Largent released the following statement:
“CTIA and the wireless industry are pleased to join the FCC in educating Americans on what to do before they leave for an international trip so that they have the best calling, texting and mobile Internet experience possible.
“U.S. wireless carriers offer many specific tools and resources on their websites for their customers who travel abroad so they can have the best international mobile experience. We’re pleased that the FCC will highlight many of those resources over the next few days. CTIA will offer its own blog posts this week to showcase this information as well.
“In addition to the specific information available from U.S. providers, we recommend these three simple steps for consumers traveling abroad: (1) contact their service provider to verify that their phone is technically capable of providing service where they are going; (2) contact their service provider to review the rates, in advance, under their current plan for the specific country to which they are traveling and consider whether it would be useful to add an international service plan for voice, text messaging or data; (3) write down the international customer care number for the service provider they use in case questions arise while traveling.
“The wireless industry has a myriad of applications available for consumers to help them manage their usage when they’re traveling in the U.S. or internationally. We encourage consumers to learn more about these tools.”
