American Power Conversion's Enhanced Management Tool Provides Visibility

Posted on: Monday, 15 December 2003, 06:00 CST

WEST KINGSTON, R.I., Dec. 15 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Driven by the need for the highest availability and management of IT networks, American Power Conversion (APC) today announced the next generation of its InfraStruXure(TM) Manager appliance that enables management of the network- critical physical infrastructure (NCPI) layer of a data center or server room. With easy deployment and minimized maintenance costs, InfraStruXure Manager uses standard protocols and collects information at the device level enabling substantial visibility to the NCPI layer. Previously this visibility was prohibitively expensive due to the cost of gathering the large volume of information necessary.

For the first time, both IT and facility managers have a browser accessible, user-friendly tool that offers remote monitoring and unique analysis tools to help maximize the efficiency and availability of the NCPI. InfraStruXure Manager provides quick assessments of the present situation and notifies designated personnel should situations occur that threaten availability. Innovative analysis features make planning for future changes in availability, power, runtime or cooling requirements easier than legacy systems. Integration with enterprise and building management systems provides one of a kind ability to managing the entire NCPI from a single console.

"If you do not have visibility and control over the physical infrastructure, you are blind to the critical layer on which your network depends," said Rob Johnson, vice president of APC's Availability Enhancements Group. "InfraStruXure Manager gives IT, facilities and data center managers an easy and effective way to maintain their critical power, cooling and rack devices utilizing existing network infrastructure to minimize costly downtime."

IT and facilities managers want the ability to manage easily and remotely using their existing network, so when conditions change they can assess and react before a situation becomes critical. InfraStruXure Manager highlights potential system weaknesses in the data center or server room, including fully loaded uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), branch circuits or power distribution units (PDU), aging batteries, temperature fluctuations via features such as load management, and battery runtime reports. The appliance also reduces system complexity by enabling management of many devices with just one IP address and offering easy to understand data graphs and quick set- up wizards. With InfraStruXure Manager, users can implement upgrades in minutes without system downtime.

APC's InfraStruXure Manager is currently available in most countries worldwide. The appliance with 25, 100, 500 or 1000 licenses has estimated resale pricing of $1,799, $2,999, $7,499 and $9,999 respectively. Additional licenses are also available.
