Fortify Software to Present at Black Hat USA 2010 and DEF CON 18
SAN MATEO, Calif., July 14 /PRNewswire/ — Most cloud security discussions have focused on what cloud providers can do, what they can’t do, and what they might do if you paid them enough. These discussions focus on topics such as virtualization, hosting and data storage. However, just as the software industry has learned that putting fancy boxes on the network doesn’t fix bad software, cloud converts must focus on the risks they bring along with the software they deploy.
On Wednesday, July 28th, Fortify Software’s Co-founder and Chief Scientist Brian Chess and Security Research Director Jacob West will present “The Cloud is Made of Software” at the Cloud Security Alliance Summit being held at Black Hat USA 2010 in Las Vegas. This talk will detail risks to software deployed in the cloud, why many old risks take on new importance when software makes the jump to the cloud and why assessing a software system’s readiness to be deployed in the cloud is critically important.
At the DEF CON 18 conference, Fortify Software’s security researchers Jacob West and Matias Madou will present a talk on Sunday, August 1st, “Repelling the Wily Insider,” which gives detailed examples of insider threats that have been uncovered in real software systems. The presentation will outline possible motives for malicious insiders and discuss how external stimuli like layoffs are increasing the attention paid to insider threats. They will conclude the session with the head-to-head results of a face-off between modern static analysis and the best backdoors they’ve seen.
