YouTube Now Allows 15 Minute Video Uploads
YouTube on Thursday gave users of its video-sharing website five additional minutes for uploads, increasing the limit from 10 to 15 minutes for videos.
YouTube product manager Joshua Siegel said in a blog post that increasing the upload time had been the most requested feature by contributors to the popular video-sharing website.
“We’ve heard you, and today we’re pleased to announce that we’ve increased the upload limit to 15 minutes,” said Siegel.
“Ongoing technological efforts” had made it possible to increase the upload length, he said. Longer upload lengths were available to official YouTube partners for some time.
YouTube said in March that 24 hours worth of video are uploaded to the video-sharing site every minute. YouTube has been gradually adding professional content such as full-length TV shows and movies in an effort to attract advertisers.
YouTube said it is raising the limit now because it believes its “Content ID” technology, which automatically removes copyright violations by digitally searching the archives, is working well.
