DETAILS:
On Wednesday, August 3, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the National Press Club, Hudson Institute will host a press conference to release findings of a major study on the U.S. surface transportation system. With the passage of TEA 21 reauthorization imminent, this book is particularly timely and topical. The book, 2010 and Beyond: A Vision of America's Transportation Future (Hudson Institute, 2005), represents over a year of analysis by a broad coalition of transportation experts from the public, private and not-for-profit sectors.
Among the policy recommendations, which span from immediate changes to those a decade out, the study group calls for a transition to a Vehicle Miles Traveled (VMT) based revenue system to be implemented by the year 2015 and an immediate increase in the existing federal motor fuel tax.
