Toshiba Developing 3D Television That Doesn’t Need Glasses

August 24, 2010

A report on Tuesday said that Toshiba is planning to launch the world’s first 3D television that does not need special glasses to view.

The Yomiuri Shimbun newspaper said that Toshiba will unveil three models of the television, which will cost several thousands of dollars.

The daily said that the company has developed a new system that emits a number of rays of light with various angles from the screen so that viewers can see stereoscopic images without glasses.

“People can enjoy images in three dimensions from various positions and suffer less stress,” it said.

Television companies launched 3D televisions this year, but sales have not been as strong as expected, as some customers complain about having to wear the glasses.

A Toshiba spokeswoman told the paper, “We are not in a position to make any announcement.”
