Atmel Corporation (Nasdaq: ATML), a global leader in the development and fabrication of advanced semiconductor solutions, and Wave Systems Corp. (Nasdaq: WAVX) today announced a licensing agreement providing secure software for the Atmel AT97SC32xx family of Trusted Platform Module (TPM) ICs.
The software package includes Wave's Embassy(R) Security Center (ESC) and Trusted Computing Group (TCG)-enabled Cryptographic Services Provider (CSP), as well as all necessary BIOS and Windows(R) drivers. With all the necessary software components, Atmel's AT97SC32xx product family delivers an off-the-shelf TCG security solution for desktop and laptop PCs.
The ESC is a powerful TPM management utility that is designed to allow easy set up and configuration of the TPM. The ESC provides multi-factor authentication functions and key management to users and is designed to allow administrators to easily define custom security policies. The software package also includes the Wave CSP, a cryptographic support utility.
The software package licensed by Atmel supports any application requiring cryptographic services taking full advantage of the TPM and is compliant with Microsoft(R)'s crypto-API specification.
"Trusted Computing is poised to reach a new level of acceptance by the industry and personal computer users as the improved TPM version 1.2 ships in volume," said Kevin Schutz, Atmel product line manager, secure products. "We believe that by partnering with proven suppliers, such as Wave and NTRU, we provide a complete user experience and flexibility for OEMs to select independent third party solutions that align with the TCG principles of interoperability and vendor neutrality."
"Wave is delighted to be a partner with Atmel in delivering a powerful hardware and software solution for the trusted computing market," said Brian Berger, executive vice president, marketing and sales, Wave Systems. "Wave's software is designed to make it easy to set up and manage a TPM security platform in a PC, and we believe it will be especially useful for those setting up multifactor authentication capabilities."
"NTRU has a long standing partnership with both Atmel and Wave, so we are pleased to see that this announcement represents another step toward strengthening the trusted computing ecosystem. Together, the NTRU Core TCG Software Stack (CTSS), the Atmel TPM and the Wave applications will offer a world class trusted computing solution into the marketplace," said Ed King, CEO of NTRU.
