SecureWave Announces Sanctuary Device Control 3.0

Posted on: Monday, 1 August 2005, 09:00 CDT

Enables Administrators to Manage Device Use Outside of the Enterprise; Integrates Device and Application Policy

SecureWave, a worldwide leader in endpoint security software, today announced the general release of Sanctuary Device Control 3.0, the industry's first endpoint security solution to offer context-sensitive policy enforcement for managing the use of authorized portable devices inside and outside of the enterprise, while blocking all unauthorized devices and removable media from corporate PCs. Building on SecureWave's award-winning technology that supports more than 700 customers worldwide, Device Control 3.0 makes it simple to centrally manage and administer device use policies for all portable devices, including iPods, digital cameras and USB memory sticks.

Unlike outdated, blacklisting approaches to security, SecureWave's Sanctuary Device Control 3.0 enables administrators to manage portable media, prevent security breaches and comply with industry regulations. Device Control 3.0 provides an extra layer of control by allowing administrators to establish different polices for users accessing corporate endpoints from outside of the network. The product also features enhanced policy auditing options enabling IT managers to audit policies being set by IT administrators. Sanctuary Device Control 3.0 also features a new, integrated roles engine that allows organizations to blend devices and application policies.

"At Martin, Fletcher, we have been using SecureWave's Sanctuary Device Control to easily manage portable device access to more than 150 desktops, tablets and laptops," said Fabi Gower, vice president of information systems at Martin, Fletcher, a leading healthcare staffing firm based in Irving, Texas. "With SecureWave, we don't need to worry about employees downloading sensitive information to portable devices, or inadvertently introducing a virus to the network by plugging in a USB stick from home."

"Endpoint security is one of the most critical concerns among IT departments now struggling to deal with the influx of USB and wireless devices entering the office, often through the back door," said Robin Bloor, partner, Hurwitz & Associates. "The problem is compounded by the fact that these devices offer little security on their own--if lost or stolen, it is a virtual certainty that the data the device contains can be easily accessed by anyone. Companies like SecureWave offer organizations a simple solution to manage a myriad of devices and establish granular policies to monitor device access to corporate endpoints."

SecureWave Sanctuary Device Control 3.0 offers administrators a host of new features designed to provide enhanced security and management functionalities. New features include:

-- Integrated Rules Engine--Allows IT managers to combine device and application policies for more granular control and increased management flexibility.

-- Location-Based Policy Enforcement--Empowers administrators to set distinct policy enforcement capabilities based on whether the device is inside or outside of the corporate network.

-- Enhanced Policy Management Options--Provides greater control and insight into device usage patterns throughout the enterprise, allowing IT managers to group devices and users into categories and monitor how administrators are setting up and enforcing polices.

-- Client/Server Performance Enhancements--Offers improved client timeout mechanisms, server address resolution and connection status detection.

-- Sanctuary Device Protection Module--Optimizes performance and gives administrators the ability to quickly create new policies.

-- Client Localization--Allows users to access the client interface in English, German or French based on regional settings.

"With the latest version of Device Control, we'll now be able to easily set parameters not only for users within the office, but those working outside of the office as well," said Gower. "This is a major value-added feature for Martin, Fletcher because we have employees who frequently travel and require remote access to the network. For example, if one of our directors needs access to the CD drive--which is locked down through our network policy--from a remote location, I can revise that director's Device Control properties, allowing specific access at a specific time."

"Trying to keep track of the increasing list of portable devices can easily become an IT administrator's worst nightmare," said Bob Johnson, CEO of SecureWave. "Many of today's high-storage capacity devices don't look like the Palm Pilots and Blackberrys of the past--they're ordinary-looking key chains or watches. More than 700 customers across the globe have chosen SecureWave because they don't want to keep track of every new device and check every employee for portable storage devices."
