Breault Research Organization Inc. (BRO), a provider of optical engineering solutions, has expanded its Engineering Services Team by hiring Dr. Matt Novak to the position of optical engineer. Novak comes to BRO with eight years of experience in the optical engineering field, including M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in optical sciences from the University of Arizona.
Novak's previous engineering experience includes positions with 4D Technology Inc., Veeco Instruments Inc., and NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
In these positions, Novak performed the optical design and breadboard construction of a Raman spectrometer proposed as a science instrument for a future Mars Rover mission. He was lead alignment test engineer for the Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM). He has also been involved in the design and production of metrology instruments for DWDM filter characterization and in-situ film-deposition metrology, as well as simultaneous phase-shifting interferometry, with experience ranging from interferometer design, to the design, assembly and alignment of supplemental optics for use in optical metrology.
According to Mark Fink, director of engineering, "Matt brings a solid background in optical metrology, design and prototyping hardware. He integrates nicely into the BRO team and will contribute to the group's team-oriented approach to engineering solutions. We are very glad to have him aboard."
BRO currently conducts business in 35 countries, and is experiencing increasing demand for its optical software products and engineering consulting services. Typical engineering consulting projects at BRO include automotive reflectors, automotive interior lighting, commercial lighting, cabin aviation lighting, external aviation lighting and military lighting. Many of these projects lead to hardware prototyping and testing.
