Silicon Laboratories Expands Industry-Leading Small Form Factor Microcontroller Product Family

Posted on: Monday, 1 August 2005, 18:00 CDT

Silicon Laboratories Inc. (Nasdaq:SLAB) today announced the expansion of its small form factor family of mixed-signal microcontrollers (MCUs) with the addition of four new small memory option devices, the C8051F332 product family, that are pin-for-pin compatible with Silicon Laboratories' popular small form factor product family. Silicon Laboratories offers the industry's leading portfolio of small form factor, high-performance mixed-signal MCUs; these mixed-signal devices deliver more functionality in a small package than any other MCU on the market.

Based on Silicon Laboratories' high-speed pipelined 8051 core, the C8051F332 product family features 25 MIPS, 2 to 8 kB Flash and 768 B RAM in a tiny 4 x 4 mm package. These highly-integrated devices eliminate external components such as crystal oscillators making them ideal for space-constrained, low-power consumer, industrial and communications applications.

The C8051F332 product family integrates on-chip peripherals such as a 10-bit 200 ksps ADC, temperature sensor, voltage reference and comparator. The C8051F332 product family also incorporates a two percent accurate precision internal oscillator eliminating the need for an external crystal or resonator. On-board serial communication peripherals include UART, SMBus(TM) and SPI(TM) bus serial ports.

"Silicon Laboratories mixed-signal MCU portfolio uniquely addresses the broad range of applications where space constraints traditionally have resulted in performance trade-offs. Our new small form factor devices, like the rest of our small form factor portfolio, offer a very small footprint without sacrificing performance," said Derrell Coker, vice president of Silicon Laboratories.

The C8051F332 includes on-chip 2-wire (C2) debug circuitry that provides non-intrusive, full-speed, in-circuit debugging of the production part before and after installation with no emulator required. Like all Silicon Laboratories MCU products, the C8051F332 products are supported with a complete, low-cost professional development kit that includes everything required to immediately begin the system design: IDE, target board, cables and power supply.

Pricing and Availability

The C8051F332 is packaged in a 20-pin QFN. Pricing begins at $1.38 in quantities of 10,000 and a complete development kit is available for $99. To buy online please visit www.silabs.com/MCUselector.
