North American Airlines to Discontinue Scheduled Service Between Oakland, California and Hawaii
Posted on: Monday, 1 August 2005, 18:00 CDT
JAMAICA, N.Y., Aug. 1 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- North American Airlines, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of World Air Holdings, Inc. , will discontinue scheduled service between Oakland International Airport in Oakland, Calif., and destinations in Hawaii effective Sept. 1, 2005.
"We have appreciated the customer support for our Hawaii service since it was inaugurated in November 2004, but this is a very competitive market that has not proven to be profitable for North American Airlines," said Rob Binns, World Air Holdings senior vice president for Marketing and Planning. "World Air Holdings conducted an extensive evaluation of the Oakland-Hawaii scheduled service after North American was acquired in April 2005, and we have determined that it is in the best interest of the business to allocate the aircraft and crews for charter service, including the U.S. military."
Customers affected by the discontinuance may contact North American at 888-287-5113 for assistance.
North American will continue to operate scheduled service to Accra, Ghana and Georgetown, Guyana, from John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York. "Those routes are experiencing high load factors and are performing well," Binns said.
