Acer Tablet Due Next Month

The world's second largest PC manufacturer, Taiwan-based Acer Inc, said Wednesday it will unveil its first tablet computer next month due to the growing demand for them.

Acer CEO Gianfranco Lanci said the tablet device will be revealed in New York and sold for between 300 and 700 dollars.

Sales of tablet computers globally are expected to grow from the nearly 20 million units sold this year to 55 million next year and more than 208 million by 2014, according to market research firm Gartner.

A number of companies have put in their bids to join the growing tablet PC market ever since Apple began selling the iPad back in April.

Taiwanese computer maker Asustek, has unveiled its version of the popular tablet computers back in May with prices starting at $199.
