Pre-orders Of NookColor Start To Ship

America's largest book retailer, Barnes & Noble, said Tuesday it has begun shipping its NookColor early to those shoppers who pre-ordered the e-reader on its web site and in its stores.

The company told Reuters, however, there could initially be only a "limited" supply of the device in its stores and at other retailers selling the e-reader, such as Best Buy and Wal-Mart, because of strong demand for the NookColor.

"We're encouraged by the consumer response thus far, and the organization is committed to doing everything we can to meet demand," CEO William Lynch said in a statement.

The company also said that the Nov. 26 ship date for the e-readers ordered online this week could change as it tries to fulfill orders.

The company also dealt with production issues and shipping delays last year, when it launched the original Nook e-reader.

The NookColor, which Barnes & Noble unveiled last month, features a color touch screen and Wi-Fi web browsing to compete with Amazon's Kindle in the fast-growing e-reader market.
