Allina Hospitals and Clinics Select LUMEDX CardioStar Technology to Advance Cardiovascular Care, Streamline Operations, and Promote Integration of Service Line Data Across Multiple Campuses

Posted on: Wednesday, 3 August 2005, 06:00 CDT

OAKLAND, Calif., Aug. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Allina, a not-for-profit system of hospitals, clinics and other health care services dedicated to meeting the lifelong health care needs of communities throughout Minnesota and western Wisconsin, announced today that it has selected the LUMEDX CardioStar technology -- a fully integrated suite of cardiology information systems, device and enterprise interfaces, and workflow optimization tools -- to support its goal of service line integration that fosters continuity of patient care and service across multiple campuses, drives process improvements, and creates operational efficiencies. This includes promoting a data-driven environment, where systems provide a comprehensive view of the individual patient as well as allow for analysis of patient populations at the aggregate level.

Implementing LUMEDX's Apollo Advance clinical data repository will provide Allina with a central repository of cross-modality cardiovascular information to foster data integration across the CV service line, eliminating the problems caused by silos of information, while providing both physicians and staff with easier access to the data. Apollo's supporting clinical modules will facilitate regulatory reporting, including ACC and STS registry participation. Deploying CardioStar's extensive set of device and enterprise interfaces will promote greater modality integration to help streamline operations -- such as reducing chart abstraction and manual data entry -- and generate greater productivity.

LUMEDX's CardioDoc physician documentation will facilitate and streamline both procedure and aggregate reporting, as well as help automate manual, redundant, and paper-intensive tasks. CardioChart, Web-enabled record viewing, will provide physicians and staff with access to patient CV data and images across campuses 24/7. CardioManager Outcomes Dashboard will elevate Allina's analytics capabilities, helping to drive process improvement efforts to improve clinical outcomes and better manage internal quality control efforts. CardioManager will provide the means to measure performance of the service line by tracking and reporting on critical operational, quality and financial metrics.

According to Lou Kotz, Clinical Systems Operations Lead, "Of the candidates we researched, only LUMEDX offered the combination of a mature product line with depth and breadth of functionality, along with extensive experience in integrating a number of modalities. They could demonstrate, for example, how their solution could integrate with our Witt Biomedical and KinetDx Echo management systems. An added value was LUMEDX's capabilities in expanding our functionalities in the vascular care area." (LUMEDX recently required the vascular laboratory software of Atrium Medical Corporation of New Hampshire and is actively expanding the suite's solution set.)

"Over the past year our organization has begun to discuss how to better align our system to excel in clinical care and service," explains Mary Ellen Wells, VP of Cardiovascular Services. "One area of opportunity is within Cardiovascular Services. A Cardiovascular Information System (CVIS) is a critical part of this integration. While our Excellian Electronic Medical Record (EMR) System is a broad platform for all integration, LUMEDX's cardiovascular information system gives depth within this product line to achieve common clinical metrics and measures to compare clinical outcomes. It will also support data collection capabilities for research to improve outcomes, as well as enhance our financial and resource management capabilities. In addition, the CVIS has the potential to assist us in disease management across the continuum."

"LUMEDX is honored that Allina Hospitals and Clinics, a leader in the application of hospital and clinical information systems, selected our CardioStar technology," says LUMEDX Vice President of Strategic Services Chris Winquist. Our goal is to take Allina's cardiovascular information system to the next level of integration, performance, and strategic value. That includes supporting and augmenting Allina's EMR efforts. LUMEDX has been developing, implementing, and supporting proven CVIS solutions for over 15 years. Our efforts with Allina reflect our belief that efficient processes supported by information technology can contribute to substantial improvements in quality of patient care, productivity, and profitability across the cardiovascular service line. It is critical that hospitals have compressive business solutions to help them address many of today's challenges and opportunities, including pay-for-performance, gains-sharing, evidence-based medicine, greater competition and transparency in the marketplace, and new governmental controls."
