In order to run a windfarm valued at £1bn 60 new full time jobs will be created. These jobs will be for skilled workers that will be in charge of maintaining and operating the Walney Offshore Windfarm, currently under construction in the Irish Sea.
UK Knack Group has recently learned that the first part of this project will be finished very soon and that the second part of the construction of this 102 turbine windfarm is scheduled to be completed next year.
The developers of this windfarm are Dong Energy, a Danish company, and they are currently building a base that will be for the use of their staff at the docks located on Barrow Island.
“This is really great news for the economy and the green industry” commented the UK Knack Group Managing Director of UK Knack Group. “These are the type of projects we need to boost our economy and become a more environmental friendly country”.
According to a spokesman for Dong Energy, 1 high voltage engineer and 12 technicians were employed for the first part of the project and later this summer 12 more technicians were hired for the second part of the project, in addition to a health, safety and environment manager and a secretary.
“This certainly benefits the local community because most of the people who get these jobs are local people who have finished their apprenticeships as mechanical technicians or electricians” said the UK Knack Group.
